Amazon Unbox Introduces the Capability to Rent Online Movies & TV Shows on TiVo DVR

The TiVo DVR has revolutionized the way we watch television. It allows us to record one program while watching another, and gives us the opportunity to never miss our favorite Television Shows.

Now the folks at TiVo are giving us something new to smile about. You can now Get Online Movies on TiVo, thanks to Amazon Unbox. The joint venture allows users to view not only movies but also some Television Programming on demand. It enables TiVo users to take advantage of Amazon’s offerings without having to use a computer to do so.

The service is available to any broadband-connected TiVo Digital Video Recorder box. Movies can be downloaded in as little as one hour, and hour-long Television Shows in about 30 minutes.

The ability to Order Pay-Per-View on TiVo is fairly new, so it remains to be seen how well it goes over and what glitches will surface. But it’s a great idea, and with TiVo and Amazon working together it has the potential to go a long way.

The main problems with being able to Order Pay-Per-View on TiVo is that the Television Shows and movies are not in widescreen, there is a lack of HD, no Aspect ratio for 16:9 Series 2, a Lack of 5.1 Surround Sound and the fact that you can’t transfer downloads to other TiVos in the house
